How to play Tripoly or Tripoley

The Tripoly game is a card game which is played as a board game that has been developed through the combination of three other very popular card games. These card games are Michigan Rummy, Poker and Hearts and a portion of each game has been incorporated into the game of Tripoley. In this game there is basic game play as well as a variety of other popular variations. This game can be played by up to nine players can play with a minimum of two players. To play the game of Tripoley you will need a regular deck of 52 cards, poker chips and a Tripoley board where there are the following divided sections:

. Kitty
. Pot
. 8-9-10 all of the same suit
. 10
. Jack
. Queen
. King
. Queen King
. Ace

To begin playing the game, between every player equally divide up the chips. For money games, your players would each buy their chips. To start each round of the game every player puts a chip on each of the nine board sections. After the deck of cards has been shuffled (jokers removed) by the chosen dealer, the 52 cards are dealt one-at-time to each player along with an extra hand that is dealt out. The basic game does not use the extra hand; however it will be used to play some of the other game variations. Based on the number of players in your specific game, the players may not have the exact same number of cards which does not matter in this game, as once the game is playing it is not a rotating game necessarily.

The basic Tripoly rules begin with a Hearts round of play where the chips are collected from each section by the player who has the "money cards". For example, the player holding the Ace of Hearts gets the chips in that section, the player holding the King of Hearts gets the chips in that section, and so on. If a player has the Queen and King of Hearts than they get all the chips in the three sections; the Queen, King and Queen/King. In this round the chips in the section for the 8-9-10 of the same suit can be split between several players if more than one player has the 8-9-10 of any given suit.

The second round of Tripoly is a Poker round, with every player choosing the 5 best cards they hold for a poker hand. The action of this round starts with the dealer either betting or checking. Continuing to the player on the left, every player either raises or calls the bet, or folds their hand. Once all the raises are in and every player has folded or called the bet, than the player holding the best poker hand wins all of the bets and the pot section on the board. This can be split in the event of a tie.

The third round of Tripoley is a round of Michigan Rummy. Every player puts their poker hand cards back with the rest of their cards and the dealer places the lowest card he holds on the board face up. This card can be any suit and any number as long as it is the lowest card he holds. That play is followed by the player holding the next card of the suit in order which he plays. For example if the dealer's lowest card is a four of diamonds, than the player with the five of diamonds plays it, than the six, seven and so on. This is continued until the Ace of that suit is played or the last card left to play in that rotation is played. The player who placed down the last card of that suit than must play the lowest card he holds of any different suit and starts the play over again. If that player cannot change suits, he passes to the left until the suit is changed. This continues until a player runs out of all cards, at which time that play wins the Kitty section chips. Additionally, for every card remaining the other players must give one chip per card they hold, to the winner of that round.

When that round is concluded, the round starts over again with a new dealer who is the player to the left of the original dealer. Chips are once again placed on the board and the cards are shuffled and dealt to all players and one extra hand. This game can end either when one player has acquired all of the chips or by an agreement or prearrangement with the players. At the end of the game, any remaining chips on the board can be distributed by a quick hand of poker by dealing each player five cards and the best hand wins.
